Staff Recognition: Hannah Ellwood

Glenn is blessed to have Mrs. Hannah Ellwood serving as the Director for The Glenn School since the summer of 2024. That was a busy time for Hannah and her family, having just welcomed baby son Hugo into the world, but Hannah started her position with grace and enthusiasm for the traditions of the school. She has nourished the school with support and concern for its parents and teachers, while showing love for each of the children. This school year is off to a grand start!

Hannah could be called a “lifer” in our Druid Hills community.  She grew up in Druid Hills with her parents and younger brother. She attended The Paideia School and then Emory University for college. Now she is raising her family in Druid Hills with her husband Aaron, and sons Miles (3 years) and Hugo (15 months.)  They are literally within sight of The Glenn School and only a few blocks from her parents (in her childhood home.) She tells all this to emphasize that she feels very connected to Glenn Memorial.

Hannah has been involved in childhood education for the past 15 years, teaching children of all ages from 3 to 14 years old. She has worked in a Montessori primary school, a progressive independent school, and in two Quaker Schools. Although the Quaker forms of worship are different from the United Methodist ones, she sees similarities in how we honor all people. Hannah is so happy to be welcomed into the Glenn School family.  She particularly mentions her teachers and office staff.

The everyday connection between the school and our church is fostered through the relationships that nurture the school’s program. She has connected to Rev. Susan Pinson, and they have created opportunities to work together occasionally.  She mentions the recent “Picnic with the Pastor;” this is an open invitational event where parents can choose to have their child participate. She said that Glenn does a beautiful job of caring for everyone in community.

She is proud to be carrying on the long traditions from The Glenn School. This is a place where children can come to be joyful, feel safe and seen. The kids all love coming here, and this is one of the reasons that she wants to be here.
