The Staff Parish Relations Committee takes pleasure in recognizing our staff members who have served the Glenn community well for many years. As Carol Wilson, Summer Camp Director, completes her 16th year in this seasonal position, we are grateful for the time and energy she has provided to our youngsters, ages 3 years old to 4th graders. Originally starting with only one week of Summer Camp in 1999, the Glenn UMC Summer Camp program has gradually increased its calendar to five weeks of fun and activities scheduled from 9am to 1pm.
Carol is no stranger to any Glenn member who raised children in our church programs. Although she is a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Tucker, she has been present in our midst since 1991, when she started teaching 2 year olds in The Glenn School for Young Children. Teaching has kept her busy with two 2-year-old classes, Monday through Friday during the school year. This is a job that she thoroughly loves. She states, “It has been a joy to now teach the children of parents who were in my classroom at a young age.” Even some of her recent camp teachers were once her students when they were younger.
She has stayed at The Glenn School and the Glenn Summer Camp because of the love and joy she finds while teaching our youngest kids —it brings gratitude to her to just to be around our children and watching them grow. The summer camp experience is a mini-reunion for Glenn School graduates from just a few years earlier. These children know each other well and like being back together again.
She is so happy working here that she has not really thought about retirement. She loves her job. Besides her pupils, she has enjoyed working with other Glenn teachers over the years; she mentions specifically our most recent school directors, Ms. Kerry Bresee and Ms. Hannah Ellwood, because of the great leadership they provide in support of the school’s teaching staff.
Carol has a love of nature and enjoys experiencing this with her classes on the playground! Her favorite activities include spending time outdoors with her family and dogs, hiking, kayaking, and gardening. She and her husband are blessed with three adult sons and 5 grandchildren.
