Ventures of Faith Sunday School: In Jesus' Name

This past week we discussed the place of the Bible in our lives, thought about the many ways it has been applied over the centuries, and considered how to connect with it in new ways. A few practical ideas follow for increasing its influence in your life. We are, after all, "people of the book."

  • make it convenient; put your Bible in sight in a place where you are likely to spend a few minutes reading

  • find a daily devotional or a study guide, perhaps one matched to your particular needs; start with selections that interest you

  • research the various ways of approaching scripture reading

  • set a time or find a regular opportunity for Bible reading

  • join a Bible study group

  • pray to gain a desire for this time with God and combine reading with prayer times

  • remind yourself that this is a special opportunity to have a close meeting with God

  • listen carefully when you hear the Bible read, even when it is very familiar

  • repeatedly let go of any guilt about how well you implement this practice!

Our topic this coming Sunday, February 4, is "In Jesus' Name." We've heard that phrase so many times we may have lost the significance of it. All are welcome to join us on Sundays at 9:45am in Room 211 (around the corner of the stairs near the Ward Fellowship Hall).
