Additional Worship

Join a Worship Team for the New Service

The apostle Paul wrote about worship in 1 Corinthians: “What should be done then, my friends? When you come together to worship, each one brings a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a word, or an interpretation.” Paul’s vision for worship was for the people to come together and for all to be involved, be participants, and even be leaders. He went on to share how every one of us has a gift or talent that can be brought to the church and shared as an act of worship.

Have you ever wanted help plan and lead a worship service? Have you wondered how your gifts and talents might be offered in a worship setting? The new worship service at Glenn Memorial invites you to join a worship team and help create and develop the gatherings of worship. As part of a team of 8-10 lay members, you will work with the staff to imagine, plan and lead worship for three months of services. There are specific areas of worship where you can help serve, such as creating sacred space, liturgical art and dance, the written word, music, and hospitality, but you do not need to have anything specific in mind in order to be on a team. Everyone who feels called to participate will be welcome.

Each liturgical year will be divided into four worship teams, with each team responsible for planning and leading three months of worship. Because the church year begins anew in late November or early December with Advent, the first team would plan and lead worship for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany (December-February). The second team would cover Lent and Easter (March-May), the third team would cover the first half of Pentecost (June-August), and the fourth team would cover the second half of Pentecost (September-November). These are rough dates that may change slightly from year to year, but it might be helpful to imagine one team for each season, winter through fall. You may feel called towards a particular liturgical season, or you may find that your schedule gives you the freedom to participate at certain seasons of the year.
